📱 Privacy at a Glance
Your reading data is private. The app works offline by default. Cloud sync is optional and only enabled when you sign in with an email account. We collect minimal analytics to improve the app experience, and you can delete your data at any time.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The following data is stored only on your device and is never automatically transmitted to our servers:
- Reading Progress: Your current chapter and reading position
- Bookmarks: Chapters and passages you've bookmarked
- Preferences: App settings (font size, theme, language, etc.)
- Highlights & Notes: Text you've highlighted or annotated (when not signed in)
1.2 Data Stored in the Cloud (Optional)
If you choose to sign in with an email account, the following data is synchronized to our secure Firebase servers:
- Account Information: Email address and unique user ID
- Highlights & Notes: Your text highlights and personal notes across chapters
- Reading Progress: Current chapter and reading position for cross-device sync
Note: Cloud sync is entirely optional. You can use the app without signing in, and all your data will remain local to your device.
1.3 Analytics Data
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with the app. This helps us improve features and fix issues. Analytics data collected includes:
- App Usage: When you open the app, which screens you visit
- Reading Behavior: Which chapters you start reading (but not the content of your reading)
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, app version
- Sign-In Events: When users sign in or sign out (method used, e.g., email or Google)
Important: Analytics data is anonymized and aggregated. We do not track personal reading content, specific text you read, or link your reading habits to your identity.
1.4 Data We Do NOT Collect
- Your actual reading content or specific text passages you read
- Your personal notes or highlights content (for analytics purposes)
- Your location data
- Contacts, photos, or other device data unrelated to the app
- Payment information (the app is free with no in-app purchases)
1.5 AI Features
The app offers AI-powered Q&A about chapter content using Google Gemini (via Firebase AI). When you use this feature:
- The relevant chapter text and your question are sent to Google Gemini for processing
- We do not store your AI conversations on our servers
- Google may process this data according to their Gemini API Terms of Service
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- App Functionality: To provide reading progress tracking, bookmarks, and highlights
- Cloud Sync: To synchronize your data across devices when you sign in
- Analytics: To understand app usage patterns and improve the reading experience
- Support: To respond to your feedback and support requests
We do NOT use your data for:
- Advertising or marketing purposes
- Selling to third parties
- Training AI models on your personal notes or reading habits
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Local Storage
Data stored locally on your device is protected by your device's security mechanisms (encryption, passcode, biometrics). We use industry-standard local storage libraries (Hive) to securely persist your data.
3.2 Cloud Storage
If you sign in, your data is stored on Google Firebase, which provides enterprise-grade security:
- Encryption: All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
- Access Control: Only you can access your data using Firebase authentication
- Location: Firebase servers are located in secure data centers (primarily US-based)
- Compliance: Firebase complies with GDPR, SOC 2, and ISO 27001 standards

We use the following third-party services that may collect data:

We use platform-native APIs (Apple App Store, Google Play Store) to request app ratings. These APIs are managed by Apple/Google and subject to their privacy policies.

We do NOT sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
We may disclose data only in these limited circumstances:
- Legal Requirements: If required by law, court order, or government request
- Service Providers: Firebase/Google as our infrastructure provider

6. Your Rights and Choices
6.1 Data Access
You can access all your data within the app:
- View highlights and notes in the "All Highlights & Notes" screen
- View reading progress in the table of contents
6.2 Data Deletion
You have full control over your data:
- Delete Highlights/Notes: Use the "Clear All" button in the Highlights screen
- Delete Local Data: Uninstall the app to remove all local data
- Delete Cloud Data: Sign in and delete your account in Preferences, or contact us at studio.peach.go@gmail.com
6.3 Data Portability
To export your data, contact us at studio.peach.go@gmail.com. We will provide your data in a machine-readable format (JSON) within 30 days.
6.4 Opt-Out of Analytics
Analytics are essential for improving the app and cannot be disabled. However, all analytics data is anonymized and does not contain personally identifiable information.
7. Children's Privacy
Our app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app is designed for reading classical Chinese literature and is intended for users of all ages. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
8. International Users
If you are located outside the United States, please be aware that your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States where Firebase servers are located. By using the app, you consent to this transfer.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
- Notify you via an in-app message for significant changes
